Hi Parents,

I hope you all enjoyed your lovely, sunny, weekend! The kiddos have had a fantastic day. This morning the 2nd grade teachers and I participated in our new Envision math curriculum roundtable and were able to see a math lesson in action by an Envision rep. The lesson was taught in our class and the kiddos were incredibly respectful and engaged! Lots of kudos to them for stepping up to the challenge this morning.

We have a very busy week as we wrap up our African Safari to
Kenya. This week we will work on a Reader’s Theatre play, finish our African
poetry, and make some African jewelry. Last week we learned about the Maasai village and had a wonderful guest speaker who shared her own experiences in Kenya,  Africa on the Maasai Game Reserve.

This brings me to upcoming events for the
week:

1)    Our class earned a party for excellent behavior. My plan is to watch a movie this Wednesday, April 3rd. The kids can come in wearing pajamas and bring in a stuffed animal.

2)   Our African Celebration will take place this
Friday, April 5th from
12:10pm to 12:50
. This is a time when your child will share all of their
writing, artwork, and show you their collaborative mural. We will also perform our readers’ theatre play. Please join us if you can and feel free to bring siblings and grandparents.

3)   What I need to know is if your child will not be at school on Friday.
This will help me plan for my reader’s theatre. Please shoot me an e-mail if
your child will not be here on Friday.

4)  Since I was not in class this morning, I did not get a chance to collect all of the reading logs. Please have your child ready to hand in tomorrow If I didn’t get your child’s today.

Parents, Thanks again for all you do! We are working at a much
faster pace and the level of expectations is higher for quality of work, effort,
problem solving, and willingness for them to do their best.  My goal is to
help them feel confident and ready as they enter third grade in the fall.

Fondly,

Julie Buck

Happy New Year!!! I hope you all had a relaxing and blessed
holiday season! I just wanted to send out a heartfelt thank you for all the
wonderful cards, pictures, gifts, and goodies I received from you and your
children. I am truly grateful for your generosity and kindness.

Your kiddos had a fabulous day today! I was proud of the way
they got back into the routine and flow of the day. Thanks for helping them get plenty of rest before school.

I wanted to remind you that the December Homework Log Sheet is due. I collected a few log sheets that came into day. I will be collecting the rest tomorrow, so in case you needed to total up the time they read/worked on
math facts, I would give you tonight to get that ready. Thanks for helping with
this.

I think that is it for now. Thanks again for all you do to help
your child succeed in learning!

Fondly,

Julie Buck

Hi Parents,

Wow, today went quickly. Your kids were wonderful today and we had lots of fun learning. We started our day learning a little about solids, liquids, and gases with the Toymaker. I want to give a shout out to the parent volunteers who came to help out today with the toymaker. Thanks for giving  your time and energy this morning.  The kids LOVED their projects and I am sure will share all about the experience.

I did collect some homework log sheets today but wanted to give
you another night to sign off and tally up the days your child read and did math facts. I will collect them all tomorrow.

I also have a donation box and coin canister in my room to
collect any donations you may have for our Giving Campaign.

I think that is it for now. Thanks for all you do parents!

Fondly,

Julie Buck

Hi Parents,

I just wanted to take a moment to wish you all a restful and
blessed Thanksgiving. I truly appreciated the time I spent with each of you
celebrating the successes of your children in school. They inspire and energize
me every day. Thanks for being such amazing and loving parents to them!

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Love,
Julie Buck

Hi Parents,

Just a quick note about the Homework log sheets. I did collect
the October log sheets today from the kids that had a parent signature at the
bottom of the sheet. For those sheets without a parent signature, please take a
moment tonight to total up the number of days read and sign the log sheet. I
will collect them tomorrow. Thanks so much for help on
this!

We have had an amazing week learning about the lifecycle
of  a pumpkin, reading books about pumpkins and making wonderful pumpkin crafts. Tomorrow we will cap off our week with the all 2nd grade
Pumpkin Fiesta.

Also, in preparation for our Veterans’ Day assembly, we
would like each classroom to send a shout out to your families for the names of veterans who we can honor on our giant banner which will be on stage for the assembly.  Please send us the names of veterans from your family and those represented in your classroom.  We will need them by no later than Thurs., Nov. 8th at 9:00 am to include them on the banner.  Thanks so much.  We want to honor all veterans with a connection to our school. BTW, We don’t mind honoring those currently serving either!

That is it for now! Enjoy your evening!

Julie Buck

Hi Parents,

Last week our class earned a warm and fuzzy party. Warm and
fuzzies are earned when the entire class works together and shows expected behavior. When they fill the jar with warm and fuzzies, we have a class party.

Our class will celebrate on Thursday 10-25 by watching a movie in the afternoon. In addition, they can wear pajamas to school on Thursday and bring a small stuffed animal.

They worked extremely hard to earn this party! I am proud of
their efforts as an entire class. They are a very caring, compassionate group of kiddos! Thanks for all of your efforts at home too!

Have a wonderful afternoon.

Mrs. Buck
