Social Studies
The Social Studies curriculum in second grade is Social Studies Alive! This curriculum focuses on community: living in community, working in community, and being a positive part of a community. We will concentrate on several specific skills involving maps, goods and services, needs and wants, cause and effect, and the principles of democracy.
In addition to this adopted curriculum, we will study Africa through a Story Path curriculum. Your student will “live and work” in Kenya during this hands-on unit.
You can help by...
Talking to your student about what they are learning in social studies. Help them connect what they’ve learned with what’s going on in the world.
Health
Our second grade focus will be that of building habits which help all of us stay healthy.
You can help by...
Discussing the importance of a balanced lifestyle combining healthy food and exercise, while encouraging your child to frequently wash hands.
Art
Snoqualmie Valley School District’s adopted art curriculum is Art Connections. In addition to the formal lessons taught through this curriculum, art is connected and woven into our other subject areas. We will learn about the elements of art and some biographical information about artists who are responsible for famous and often recognized works of art.
