Hi Parents,

I just wanted to send you an update from our first full week of school! Your kids are amazing! This week I had a chance to see your kiddos feel more comfortable in the classroom and I love all of their personalities. We are a class that buzzes with great energy for learning. Thank you parents for making sure they are well rested and eat right before each school day. I told them we are all building our stamina for
school again.

We have been studying lots about the plant lifecycle and
observing our own pea plants. A big thanks to Riley C.’s grandma, Debbie, for coming in and helping the kiddos transplant their baby plants into bigger
cups.

In our Second Grade reading books we have been reading the
non-fiction story From Seed to Plant. Today the kids practiced taking their first comprehension test. We had fun exploring with art creating self-portraits using oil pastel crayons and water coloring techniques.

In character we are trying hard to be social thinkers and think
about how others might think or feel by the choices we make. I have framed our behaviors in the classroom and at home as expected behaviors (how we should behave appropriately at home and school) versus unexpected behaviors (how we should not behave at school and home). These terms will be our foundation as we move forward in our social thinking! I am really excited to see how this way of thinking will help your children grow socially this year.

Just a reminder that Curriculum Night is next Tuesday, September 18th. I will attach a flyer that provides more details about the night. I will go over in more detail about how reading, writing, and math will
flow throughout the year.

This Monday is Specialist Day 1 which is our Library time. If your kids have library books at home, please have them bring them in so they can get new books.

Thanks again for all your help and support at home and know that I LOVE teaching your children. They are wonderful because of the parents you are! Enjoy this gorgeous weekend!

Fondly,
Julie Buck
